Scientists working on any weapons systems are always confronted with the morality of empowering their government with killing devices. (Labor’s Nazi slur, 14/5). Scientists developing the atomic bomb in the 1940s were encouraged by the atrocities of their wartime enemies. When scientists are acting for immoral dictatorships, the position of their people and media to be anti-science is laudable. Kim Carr accuses The Daily Telegraph of being anti-science for suggesting that the COVID-19 virus was developed in a Wuhan laboratory. If proven, such activity would equate to bioterrorism and it would justify holding scientists accountable. Mr Carr’s leader is diminished by his silence. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 15May2020.
