Racing Victoria continues to wage war against the NSW-inspired Everest horse race (“Peak hypocrisy”, 14/10). To suggest that two horse races on the same day would be competitive rather than complementary is dismissive of racing fans across Australia. The cumulative effect of cross-promotion would be a financial boon to both states and the racing industry collectively. Partisan bitterness and division at the highest level of Racing NSW and Victoria will drive punters into other sports that can generate better leadership and loyalty to their fan base. Racing Victoria must see this as an opportunity, not a challenge. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 15Oct2019
