While William Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew eventually resulted in heroine Katharine Minolta gaining insight through humility into the natural order of 16th century family life, 21st century Grace Tame’s apology to the Jewish community adds insult to injury and demonstrates zero remorse or admission of error. (Jewish leaders reject Tamed Grace’s apology, DT, 11/9). With her public role as a former Australian of the Year, advocating worthily for all victims of sexual violence, she was in a magnificent position to passionately pursue her valiant cause. While joining protesters against the visit of Israel’s President Isaac Herzog, she said the rape and pillage of October 7th was a complete fabrication, shredding any credibility or authenticity she might have had. Claiming to stand for survivors “no matter who they are” is an outrageous additional insult, implying that Jewish rights are on the extreme end of the spectrum of those deserving justice after sexual violation. Rebuffed and cancelled by institutions no longer interested in giving her a forum for her propaganda, this awkward apology will not reverse the damage done during an angry tirade on a cold Sydney street in February.
