As the deep-pitched tower bells in the churches lamented the depressing news that former Pope Benedict XVI had died, it was surely only a matter of time before a discussion of conservative values in the Catholic Church was reignited. (Benedict may yet prove pivotal for church, 2/l). Many might consider the Second Vatican Council a betrayal of those who chose God’s rules rather than the world’s. Since that council in the 1960s, some Catholic orders have failed with few vocations. Sadly, hoping to stand for everything in the name of ecumenism has diluted the rich heritage, principles and graces of the Rock of St Peter. Benedict’s voice is timeless and shall never be silenced.
