Telegraph reporter Georgia Palgan is enchanting us all by giving voice to the life and times of the beautiful animals around us (“They are so cute it’s almost criminal”, Sunday Telegraph, 24/11). Using puppies in prison in a program to have inmates train them as assistance dogs certainly is a win-win for society and for empowering those needing to culture their sense of responsibility and belonging. The previous week, Palgan alluded to the difficulties Taronga Zoo had in breeding echidnas, which might seem rather “pointed” to most of us, but new equipment saw problems overcome and twin puggles adorned the Telegraph in a heart-melting display (“A double serve of puggle love”. DT, 22/1l). It is hard to believe that we are on the same planet as these two tales when domestic violence has now extended to killing family pets to inflict emotional carnage (“Coward stabbed victim’s puppy”, Sunday Telegraph, 24/11).
