Familiar with the TV clips of the accused walking out of court and the lawyer talking to inquisitive reporters, news of a criminal investigation into a boozy and drug afflicted law firm would surely see the lawyers silenced too (Wolves of Phillip ST, 15/4). The view that courts deliver an outcome, rather than true justice is a likely conclusion when its participants can be part-time drunks, womanisers and illicit drug users. Hypocrisy should never sit comfortably on a barrister’s conscience. One might wonder whether the public naming of the firm will result in past clients suing for inadequate representation. I guess those defended for drug possession, providing evidence of suppliers’ phone numbers and other illicit information, later used by the lawyers for their own benefit, might feel aggrieved.
