News of the newly mutant COVID virus makes for grim reading and one ought not lighten the seriousness of a mortal pandemic, but some benefits to our current situation deserve noting. (Frustration as new bug takes flight, 11/1). Cheaper petrol, less clogged roads, money saved on tolls and more home time have been evident benefits. Another was an enlightening demonstration that our governments love us after all. Our doctors have also redefined their methods in a very positive way. Surprisingly, wearing a mask yesterday created enough anonymity that I avoided unwelcome company. I’m sure we could all add to this list of silver linings in the COVID cloud.
