Sound political judgement must be part of a candidate’s track record, reflecting a reliable character which has been tested by life’s challenges and not found wanting. In such a context, Warren Mundine is surely the most valiant of contenders for the Liberal Party preselection for Bradfield. His outstanding leadership, spearheading the anti-Voice campaign should be far more inspirational to the voters of Bradfield than the choir of ex-premiers cobbled together on a Sunday afternoon at a Lindfield eatery. Not one of these limelight luminaries opposed the stand of NSW Liberal leader Mark Speakman as he advocated for the failed Voice. Each agreed that we need advocates for our Indigenous Australians in the parliament, yet they now oppose Warren Mundine. Compounding their own misjudgements in office, none of these Liberal Party ideologues have addressed issues of Aboriginal child abuse nor have Gisele Kapterian’s former bosses succeeded in reshaping policies to improve the prospects of a generation of Indigenous youth. Preselecting Kapterian will be a prescription for more of the same. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 14Jan2025
