Peta Credlin is right to give the thumbs up to NSW Premier Chris Minns for selecting  Mal Lanyon as our new Police Commissioner in spite of past errors. (ST, 28/9). We all learn from our mistakes, which often include a punishing emotional aspect being strongly impactful on future behaviour. Historically, many criticised US President Franklin Roosevelt when he appointed Patrick Kennedy to reform the New York stock market as SEC Chair in 1934, considered by many to being akin to putting the fox in charge of the hen house. Yet, knowing and closing all the loopholes, Kennedy enacted changes which survive today. Chris Minns is right to depoliticise the position of commissioner and appoint the best candidate.  Alan Sexton North Parramatta 5 Oct 2025.
