AFTER the success of Netflix’s “Ir-reverent” TV series based at Mission Beach truly regaling the potential of North Queensland to attract the Hollywood heavy-weights, the headline “Dogs in rubbish shock” is surely ample material for Steven King’s imagination to be in full flight. News of a deceased puppy paw ominously perforating thick plastic in a mass disposal rubbish bin could easily stir creative ghostwriters into action. With pet owners choosing the cheaper option for disposal, I guess the vets cannot be blamed for the overflow that attracted the startled attention of local office worker Claudia Waller. Perhaps growing up on a literary Dr Suess diet setting the expectations of where a pet might be found (like the Cat in the Hat), the prospects of Steven King recreating a Queensland version of Pet Cemetery might all be too much for a horrified Claudia.
