The News Corp local campaign to “Let Them Be Kids” continues to be successful, resonating around the world’s courtrooms and giving impetus to restricting social media companies from blindly propagating the vile influence of sexual predators while making fake claims of their platform’s safety. (“Meta hid its harm to kids”, DT, 26/3). Congratulations to New Mexico Attorney-General Linda Singer for achieving a $US375m victory against Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta for its addictive and toxic influences on children. With Section 230 of the Communication Decency Act negating liability for adverse content for internet providers, little accountability has been exercised or imposed on these financial behemoths until now. Sadly, the one requirement of the Act was to preserve user privacy, providing a legal protection for bullies, predators and misfits corrupting the purported beneficence of the platform. With First Amendment protections allowing unfettered dishonesty to propagate, I guess it will take a few more court cases before US public debate becomes balanced and adults are less likely to fall victim to the Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s not just kids being mentally poisoned on Facebook. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 27Mar2026
