NSW Origin coach Brad Fittler extols the virtues of leadership as he stands by Jarome Luai, a player who’s skills are 100 per cent on field and, I believe, 0 per cent online. (Luai death threats after Origin shocker, 23/6). A self-admitted sore loser after Wednesday’s game, he proved unfortunately after last year’s grand final that he was also a rotten winner with offensive commentary about the Eels and use of inappropriate language on social media. (The Panthers gun down Eels in a fly-by, 4/10/22). While the high profile of popular league players might generate income on social media, the negative aspects can be unsettling. With a great physical game skill set and flowing locks to match, Luai should surely aspire to greater heights. Full kudos to him for reaching out to Penrith’s helicopter crash victim Nicky Tadros and lifting his spirits during a difficult medical recovery. With the right coaching, Jarome Lual has much to contribute, and Brad Fittler is right to defend him. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 23Jun2023.
