The mistreatment of Lachlan Galvin by the Tigers is reprehensible and reeks of exorbitant hypocrisy by senior players bemoaning his lack of loyalty to this historically mediocre team (“Heat ramps up on Galvin exit”,DT, 17/4). While Dylan Brown was booed once by fans after announcing he was switching clubs at year’s end, he wasn’t bullied by teammates or omitted from games. Admitting that leaving the Panthers was the “toughest decision of his career” ,Jarome Luai seems extraordinarily hypocritical in his lack of sympathy for Galvin. Having received death threats in 2023 after his famous Instagram post “Chill, all you idiots have work tomorrow” , one might wonder about his social media habits. The decision by coach Benji Marshall to follow some players and drop Galvin surely supports the exiled players’ perception that the direction of the Balmain team is wrong and he has no chemistry with these new players. Phil Gould and the players union are right to defend Galvin’s mental health against these outrageous hypocrites. As a Parramatta fan, we would roll out the red carpet tomorrow to embrace a young player with outstanding talent who is suffering the slings and arrows of his jealous rivals.
