Our society continues to be confronted by the horror of our precious young people dying at rave dance parties. Several solutions were sensibly argued by your letter writers (1/1). The common factor in these deaths is overdose. The message that parents should stress is that nearly all these drugs cause anterograde amnesia. The young partygoers don’t realise that they can’t remember what they took or when they last took a tablet. The amnesia properties of ketamine, rohypnol and GHB facilitate “date rape”. Amphetamine and MET also interfere with concentration and memory formation in the hippocampus in the brain. Regular MDMA administration at a minimum of twice a month has resulted in persistent, permanent memory loss. Overdose is unavoidable if the self-administering individual has no memory. Drug testing at festivals won’t solve this issue. Dr Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 3Jan2019.
