With a large proportion of our state population invested in the education and development of children whether as parents, teachers or administrators, the timely suggestion of Mr Perrottet that critical improvements be made is an election winner. (Heads given power to fire, 21/2). Long overdue, it is recognised that local problems need local solutions. Decentralising control and abandoning the widespread (if toxic) view that everything should be the same statewide, the Department of Education should be working as an information resource rather than a dictatorial politburo. The excessive red tape compliance and oversight restrictions on teachers undoubtedly strangles the energetic passion for the classroom that was the only insightful motivation for our brilliant best students to return to our classrooms as teachers. This program might well be tested on “ambassador” schools, but must become a feature of all schools in NSW as our most important profession is set on the right course for future generations. No other election issue could possibly supplant this vision for excellence.  Alan Sexton, Parramatta. 22Feb2022.
