No longer a big fish in a small pond, our very own professedly-diplomatic and freshly-minted US ambassador, Kevin Rudd surely has the world at his feet with his new job. (Rudd plays down his attacks on Trump, 21/4). Kim Beazley has not lost his sense of humor as he suggests the new ambassador’s role will humble our Kevin. (Online, 23/2). While quivering staff at the embassy await the micromanaging of their lives, perhaps his anxiety about a new term for Trump, dangerous economic times and Chinese aggression might see him set more substantial priorities. The former resident of the building that is now our embassy, World War 2 hero General George Patton, reputedly shared Rudd’s giant ego, so he should fit in just fine. As all Australians might agree, a big ego should have its own space, but far, far away. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 24Apr2023.
