Your editorial that warns us to be meticulous in assessing claims from Hamas is wise. (Do not place your trust in baby killers, 19/10). There was too much early certainty that Israel was to blame for the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital bombing. Hamas’s credibility was undercut when an intact hospital, absence of craters and satellite evidence disproved the claim, instead implicating the Islamic Jihad group. But with the chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh far away in Qatar and 12 other senior leaders safely ensconced in Istanbul, I guess accurate communication across the organisation is not ideal. The hypocrisy of this leadership issuing orders for the innocents to remain as human shields in North Gaza while they enjoy 5-star hotel luxury in their safe havens should not go unnoticed by the world.
