Greg Norman is right to note that Qantas was indeed one of the best airlines in the world during the 1980s and 1990s. (Shark bites Kangaroo, 12/10). With a fantastic staff of good-hearted Aussies known internationally as the friendliest people on earth as well as a work culture singularly focused on safety and world’s best practice, we deserved our excellent reputation. However, since 9/11 expectations have changed. Last week witnessed an event where even the pilots now cannot be completely trusted. Anything can go wrong, so time must be invested ensuring a 100% commitment to every life onboard. With his LIV Golfing organisation floundering, perhaps the brilliant attention to detail evident at Qantas might be an inspiration for Greg Norman rather than something worthy of his ridicule.
