No words could extol the gratitude of a nation to those whose lives are lost in the historic battlefields of our time. Yet, great is the sacrifice of those surviving, maimed, disillusioned and riddled with PTSD. (Inquiry will bring relief says war hero, 20/4). The announcement of a Royal Commission and formal withdrawal from Afghanistan will set the foundation for healing. Perhaps the next step forward will be ceasing the media witch hunts, which will only highlight the personal horrors and character failures while fighting a war.
