While the intricate pageantry of royal events summons up a mastery of historical detail and showcases a myriad costumed elegance depicted brilliantly on our TVs, the infrequency of such panoramas sees the value of monarchism lie deceptively dormant in our lives. We have all seen the avowed Australian republican TV commentators gushing all things “royal” during recent London regal weddings and they have now again been in full throttle since last Friday. The death of Queen Elizabeth II has triggered us to again ponder the rich cultural inheritance offered by British pageantry. Contrary to the long-held views of the inward-looking republicans, the death of our amazing Queen will surely boot their inept cause down the road another 100 years.
