After the amazing promotion of this Saturday’s race meeting and the fame of the Everest continuing to soar, it should be no surprise that a new King, seeking engagement with his equine-loving subjects, would take his chances by throwing his best steed, Chalk Stream, into the ring at Randwick. (Charles ready to reign at Randwick, 13/10). While named after a geographic stream that arises from a spring with a chalk bedrock (generally only found in southern England), one must hope that its race also starts with a good spring, accelerates to the speed of rapids rather than a meandering waterway and ends with the bookies chalking up a big payout to HRH. A name alone might not win you a race, but this must be a sentimental favourite in memory of Queen Elizabeth II. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta  14Oct2022.
