It is indeed heartwarming to read the long list of successes and achievements of NSW Greyhound Racing in a terrific showpiece advertisement in Wednesday’s Daily Telegraph. (“That was our best year ever”, DT, 3/7). Pilloried in the days of Premier Mike Baird, who sought to eradicate this industry which was the lifeblood of many rural communities across the state, constructive reform and the application of best practices has restored this sport to its deserved place in history. As a child on a sheep farm in the Riverina, I still remember the day our amazing greyhound spotted a fox and I was to witness the speediest race in nature as the target looked like it was weighed down in slow motion. We should regale the reforms made and value the unique qualities of man’s best (and fastest) friend. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 4July2024.
