No one could begrudge the Queen’s Birthday Honours bestowed on health leaders Kerry Chant and Elizabeth Koff for their contributions during the Covid challenges. (This is for all health heroes, 13/6). While awards like Australian of the Year have become politically divisive and deserve to be abolished, recognition of heroic measures deserve to be royally regaled. Whether such accolades should be reserved for retirement rather than dished out mid-career as some type of encouragement award is debatable. My only criticism of this process is that the amazing premier, who overshadowed all around her in those dogged press conferences, was not included in the honour roll. If the praise is singularly for the excellence in managing Covid in this state, omitting Gladys Berejiklian significantly cheapens the sincerity of the awards.
