MP Craig Kelly has disagreed with the mainstream opinion about hydroxychloroquine and its place in the prophylactic treatment of COVID. (Call to rein-in anti-vax politician, 3/2). Simply put, unlike the value given to perceptions rather than reality in politics, evidence-based medicine is a precise and exacting taskmaster. Published articles that are peer- reviewed quickly become the gold standard and a benchmark for best practice. If Mr Kelly cites the list of publications and the Chief Medical Officer is ignorant of them, the doctor’s ethical breach should be considered irredeemable, triggering his immediate dismissal. Conversely, if Mr Kelly’s evidence is not credible, then he should resign immediately. Medicine is a masterful profession at record keeping. With the facts on the table, the public trust must be treated with the utmost respect. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 4Feb2021.
