Political parties are truly out of touch if they ignore the popular views expressed in the media. This week you identified three great reactions to issues you publicised. Mr Turnbull was obviously never a reader. He thought social media was better feedback about public opinion. While overvaluing the selfie, he ignored the subjective bias of his limited followers on Facebook and Twitter. A poor leader was deceived, assured by the accolades (and likes) of his fan base. The weakness of the internet is that ill-researched opinion is unfiltered by professional, journalistic review. The Roseville branch of the Liberal Party called for his membership to be cancelled this week. They might have acted much sooner if they had only heeded the sage advice of your letter writers, who were advocating the same advice before the Wentworth by-election.
