While the return of Novak Djokovic might be controversial in some circles, there’s little doubt all Aussies are delighted to see two-time Australian Open winner Rafael Nadal (plus his new baby) back to our shores (Father Time catches up with Nadal, 29/12). Abandoning his trademark headband without a drop of sweat in sight, perhaps learning what real nervousness is during his labour ward experience has cured him of his on-court anxieties. Following Roger Federer’s example of travelling together with the family, I expect that Aussie babysitters will be lining up at Rafa’s door for a few years to come. With the new trophy-sized baby in tow, Rafa is a winner before the competition starts. Ironically, his only injury risk might be “tennis elbow” caused by carrying Rafa Jr around the world. Good luck champ. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 30Dec2022.
