Reminiscing on history’s unfaltering lights once again beaming across the amazing Olympic Stadium on Monday night, past glories were recounted from the 2000 Olympics, later capped off with Aussie Mary Donaldson marrying her Danish prince. Events now had surely come full circle when the Matildas clashed with the Danish soccer world cup team in the arena of Cathy Freeman’s world dominance and where Sydney was rightly regaled for the best games ever by Juan Antonio Samaranch. In our unnecessarily divisive society today, where government demands we be opinionated on sensitive matters of the Voice, thank you Matildas for bringing us together where we were one, even if only for a few hours.
