NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb might have been wrong to sack a competitor after assuming the top job, but she was right to attend functions this week to raise funds for police charities, having already visited flood victims. (Car-missioner’s wrong gear, 10/3). I want my well-paid top cop to keep every appointment in her book and not be unreliable. When a crisis arises, she should extend her schedule to get the jobs done like everyone else. But hanging around crisis centres is often not helpful and the top dog’s entourages easily get in the way, as Anthony Albanese learnt in Nimbin during the bushfires. He and MP Janelle Saffron earned a good dressing down by an indignant local who took offence at their point scoring. The Police Commissioner can hold her head high on raising $32k for the PCYC and Legacy. Anyone wishing to criticise her can happily do so after matching this contribution. Any takers? Alan Sexton.
