As the High Court in London decided to allow Julian Assange to appeal his extradition, the question must be asked why he should be held in maximum security. Sentenced in 2019 to 50 weeks for skipping bail and for fleeing to the Ecuadorean embassy, one must ask whether vengeance or justice is being served up by the UK legal system. The imprisonment of Julian Assange is an outrage and can only be seen as payback for much of the other information he leaked, especially negative reports about Hillary Clinton while she was secretary of state. Depriving her of the presidency obviously caused wounds which are yet to heal. His descent into a mental morass is a stain on all involved and his continued incarceration is in violation of the UN’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention which demanded his release in 2016.
