After Joe Hildebrand showed how the left had infiltrated universities in his article on Tuesday (“Decolonising dentistry puts the bite on taxpayer”, DT, 18/3) and showed they were wasting money on nonsensical research, we should not be surprised when an even more ridiculous headline occurs the next day (“Hawaiian island is sinking into the sea, DT, 19/3). Stretching across a tectonic plate for 2400km, the 137 islands are mostly uninhabitable, with only the eight bigger ones populated. With shoals, sea mounts, atolls, reefs, shallow banks and occasional islands being submerged as the Pacific plate is depressed by the North American Tectonic plate, the gradual descent of the archipelago stretching from the Kune Atoll in the north west to Hawaii in the south east has been occurring for millions of years.
