The inquest into the tragic events at Westfield Bondi Junction last year will be therapeutic for organisations and relatives, outlining the successes and failures on the day. (“The moment a hero put an end to Bondi carnage” DT, 2/5). No one can imagine what was going through the mind of Inspector Amy Scott as she rushed into the shopping complex without backup. While police were criticised for their management of the Lindt Cafe terrorist attack in December 2014, only intervening after Man Monis actually killed someone, many police had since been scrutinised for field actions resulting in deaths and they obviously sustain a heavy personal and reputational toll. The value of CCTV cannot be underestimated. Offering HD quality vision, there can be no fairer evidence of the events which unfurled on that day, April the 13th. Acting as a disincentive for crime for rational people, CCTV should be regaled as another hero of the Westfield attack, ensuring that Inspector Amy Scott was immediately vindicated and not subject to the sometimes overzealous bureaucrats in the force. Similarly, the heroism of members of the public was duly catalogued for the amazing legends they truly are. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 3May2025
