The no-nonsense approach to drug trafficking by the Indonesian government has certainly been effective, sending every possible disincentive to drug mules and their bosses. Lessons surely might be learnt here about revamping our own softly-softly treatment of those supplying our drug-addicted youth. Anthony Albanese is 100 per cent correct to put the Bali Nine story back in the headlines. (“Albo’s get out of jail free card”. DT, 16/12). Their most constructive role now is to visit multiple schools and warn a new generation with their insightful experiences about life choices. An anti-drug crusade across Australia by these men is surely the key to their redemption. At Christmas our collective humanity is surely best tested in our merciful approach to five young boys who made very silly decisions 20 years ago.
