Whether referring to Parliament House or football teams, any bad behaviour depicted will get more publicity, but it is simply reflective of the community people come from. There is nothing uniquely corrupting within the grounds or culture of our parliaments that promotes immorality. If anything, one might expect publicity to mute such outlandish breeches of broadly advocated ethics. The Prime Minister should focus on specific events and institute practical solutions. This is what the police do at the community level. Prohibiting drunks entering the federal Parliament and banning photography in Ministerial offices without a media pass might be a good start. An immediate real reaction to such breeches will depict a PM in touch, prepared to take the high ground. Clouding the issue by questioning when the gossip mills finally reached the PM’s office highlights a complete disconnect from the real problem and cements Mr Albanese in the political quicksand of his own making.
