Energy Minister Chris Bowen and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The mocking tribute to our political elite in the best editorial of the year should be mandatory reading (“Here’s to our fine politicians”, DT, 10/4). That land on which to build a home is so expensive in one of the most uninhabited countries on Earth is unbelievable. Similarly, it can only be by design that our bountiful energy supply is now one of the most expensive worldwide. Letter writer Jan Illingworth is right to debunk the stupidity of using short-term renewables and highlights the failure of Chris Bowen to tabulate either the current monetary cost or future costs to the environment of these poisonous products (“Come clean, Chris”, Letters, 10/4). With all sides of politics implicated and equally untrustworthy to resolve our current malaise, perhaps the Liberal Party could have served us best by becoming a “less broad church” and ditching all its left-leaning members to give Australians a real choice at the May federal election.
