Oh no! Before you can say Jack Robinson, the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union is trying to redesign our Aussie flag, encouraging the best part to “hit the road, Jack”. (Letters, DT, 23/7). With little manufacturing left in Australia and overall membership less than 10% of our workforce, one should expect the AMWU to appreciate the publicity to unions the “Union” Jack offers. It seems that these jack of all trades are proving once again that all work and no play makes Jack a very dull boy indeed! While union bosses might be hoping for a jackpot with their Labor Party mates, the facts are that most Aussies love this Jack in the box right where it belongs on our National flag.
