Bondi Beach victim Arsen Ostrowski never appeared on the popular TV show Survivor, but he would most probably have won if he had, as his brilliant articulation in the Daily Telegraph on Friday would have outplayed most of the brawny wannabe competitors chasing unearned stardom in hostile, challenging environments. There is a difference between chasing fame to satisfy egotism versus having it imposed on you by horrific events which see you bypass the lottery of death by millimetres. While I was speaking to Arsen at the December 21 commemoration, he was in shock, surely asking himself the same questions Donald Trump was confronted with after his equally miraculous survival. We must all be inspired by Arsen’s words, confirming again that hateful actions become possible when the echo chambers of bitterly brainwashed racists are left unchallenged.
