I guess we must all wish Special Minister of State and Trade Minister Don Farrell better luck with his open-door offer to solve the Green’s internal battles after failing poorly to match the expectations of our farmers trading with Europe. (“Farmers shouldn’t have beef with me says Don”, DT, 20/10). Unable to renegotiate his free-trade agreement with the EU because of all the fires in France, it’s a shame for Aussie farmers that all those potential BBQ opportunities are going up in smoke. As the fiasco involving Greens Senator Jordan Steele-John morphs into something else (“The real victim is me, says senator”, DT, 20/10), perhaps the liberal French attitude might offer solutions for Don. I expect the Greens’ fiery fury of broken hearts and with Europe ablaze, Farrell might be truly out of his depth. Perhaps another former PM, handy at firefighting would have been a better performer on all fronts. Alan Sexton, Parramatta 21October2026
