Andrew Bolt has brought a modicum of sanity to the issues raised by the assault on MP Helen Haines and correctly called out the Left side of politics for their repetitive mantra of “Do as I say, not as I do”. (“Don’t let horror dim our right to debate, DT, 22/10). In one context, social media is surely a blessing for investigators, offering certifiable evidence for a case. Politicians choose to have social media accounts that offer connection, exposure and an opportunity to embrace all elements of their communities. If the engagement is too taxing, they could ditch it. The mainstream media is a forum for one-way communication, with perhaps Letters To The Editor being the only exception where the public can freely object to published narratives and give feedback. We were all expected to have forgotten the Left’s unbridled celebration of Charlie Kirk’s public murder. Despite calls to be nice in public debate, I’m not optimistic that Aussies will be influenced by our biggest hypocrites in parliament. Alan Sexton, Parramatta 23October2026
