With the unfolding events in the Middle East potentially leading to divisive angst on our streets and the recent Voice referendum now descending to recriminations, blame and unnecessary bile, it is surely time to be reminded of how the spirit of the Matildas truly welded us together and how good that felt. Now, more than ever, the theory of six degrees of separation should be contemplated as it argues that all mankind is connected to others through less than six personal interactions. We have much in common and should consider differences as adding to our rich diversity rather than triggering hatred. We are far more connected than we ever realise and should reap the benefits of living in this amazing country, never taking it for granted. Whether referendums, far away wars or lost soccer games, it’s time to heal. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 21Oct2023.
