While the world might choose to translate the term “zero emissions” as avoiding releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, increasingly it is equating to zero electricity security and zero money in the bank after China is paid for all the solar panels and lithium batteries – which might last 10 years if we are lucky (Power shock as bills to rise, 7/12). Without arguing the past history of carbon dioxide being at much higher levels than today and our weather pattern also being extreme in historic records, the proposed cure is surely worse than the disease. Europe recently has shown the folly of abandoning baseline energy supply. The loss of industrial manufacturing will risk bankrupting the nation and seriously impinging on our defence policies. Failed refrigeration, communication systems, home medical devices and ATM access would surely lead to widespread social disorder. Electrical cars, unable to be charged by the grid, would add to the completely unnecessary chaos. The Nuremberg defence of “just following orders” (in this case, from the scientists) won’t stand up when so much current evidence proves our government is heading into a plane crash with its green policies.
