Children dumped classes on Friday, marching in the streets of our state capital for a world with better weather. Should these protests have been held at the churches instead, since God is more likely to be found there and be more effective with a solution than any parliament? The meaningless protests demonstrated a school system bereft of science and consumed by ideology. While parents might shudder at the prospects of 100 per cent renewables, there is a bright side. The healthy prospect of salads instead of cooked meals will solve our obesity issues. The unheated house in winter will see everyone in bed early. A good night’s sleep for everyone will improve the ambience around testy teenagers. Children won’t leave lights on. TVs and computers will be off, not on standby at 40 per cent power. Their early morning walk to school will be terrific for mum to have a sleep-in. Parents will have an excuse not to spoil their children on the basis of their own insistence on a better world. Bring it on! Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 3Dec2018.
