The retirement of the broadcasting king of Sydney radio Ray Hadley cannot surely pass without some literary accolades for the one man who has perhaps earned the mantle as the most trustworthy of identities in public life today. Listening to the station, I was often amazed at the positivity of those who lived alone and found solace and a sense of belonging by listening and calling in. Sydney was surely less lonely when sharing the compassion and personality of this great Australian. As Mark Levy takes his place, there are lessons to be learnt to capture the same level of success. Perhaps Ray’s greatest strength was he always resonated with the average Aussies’ expectations. Championing great causes or holding politicians to account, I’m sure all of Sydney values his legacy and no one would begrudge his new occupation as a proud grandfather to his beloved next generation.
