The Sunday Telegraph must immediately check for escape clauses in correspondent James Weir’s contract, least he be lured away by Channel 7  executives after his brilliant writing. (ST, 12/3). While programs like Married At First Sight, Survivor and The Bachelor represent a reality theme of the untalented selling their souls for fame and a career start, programs like SAS are focused on public humiliation. The hilarious suggestion of Maggie Beer being booted out of a plane on TV in an SAS episode, interrogated for failed recipes and otherwise pilloried while her fellow cooks are regaled in kind would be guaranteeing top notch ratings. Until then, Weir’s columns will have to suffice. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 19Mar2023
