It is highly appropriate on the first anniversary of the Wieambilla massacre that the names of Police constables Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow and civilian Alan Dare are again in the headlines, ensuring that our collective commitment to honour their memory is maintained. (US man arrested over Qld police killings, 7/12). As their funeral cortège blocked the streets of Brisbane, we surely all suppressed our indignant anger at those instigating this heinous antisocial outrage. With murderous intent, YouTuber Donald Day claimed to be inspired by the Jewish prophecies of Armageddon to encourage a paranoid mindset in his deluded audience. The suggestion that he had any instinct for Christianity is surely nonsense, since turning the other cheek and exhibiting self sacrifice to convert the hearts of others to God’s higher ideals wasn’t practised by his followers in Wieambilla last December. I acclaim the actions of the FBI and Queensland Police in apprehending and prosecuting such outrageous behaviour. Matthew, Rachel and Alan are honoured as justice is slowly secured for those whom we must never forget. RIP on this first anniversary. Alan Sexton Parramatta 8Dec2023
