While perhaps an exception, having written my first published Letter to the Editor in my teens, there is little doubt that those currently engaged in this fun enterprise are a touch older, spicing up their retirement with often tongue-in-cheek missives about matters of the day. Good humour and a wonderful sense of perspective often guides public discussion in these hallowed columns. The death of long-term contributor Geoff Hinds (Merrylands) last August and now Marg Swindells (Castle Hill) is saddening. In literature, we are warned to be careful what we wish for. Her last letter on March 6 urged us to “Give Albo the boot.” With her wonderful sense of humour, she would perhaps see the funny side. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 22Mar2023.
