As Channel 10 newsreader Narelda Jacobs read the news live on-air that her fellow employee Jessie Baird had been murdered in an apparent love triangle, tears welling in her eyes prevented her reading the teleprompt, tragically emphasising her heartbroken lament as she ad-libbed through her grief. (Hearts break for lost lives, 25/2). It seems those in the Sydney 10 network knew Jessie affectionately and collectively acclaimed his encompassing humanity and extolled his on-screen charisma. While there are multiple help-lines for depression, anxiety and suicide prevention, one wonders what help is available for managing the obsessive-compulsive ex-lover, who won’t take no for an answer and is mentally descending into a raging pit of self- pity and exaggerated indignation. While the courts offer AVOs, the publicity might be unwelcome for someone already in the public eye. Clearly, an emergency helpline must be established immediately to address the increasing incidence of domestic violence and the many forms it takes. With much hope and prayer, they will be found and returned to their grief-stricken families. RIP to two souls, who gave much love to all those around them. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 3Mar2024
