Several letter writers have articulated well the argument against further financial support to UNRWA in the Gaza Strip. (Letters, 5/2). No doubt, additional funding can only assure the continuation of this war or its recurrence in the future. Conditions must be attached to Australia’s support. Hamas’ removal must be the first condition. It has refused new elections, bullied its people, killed dissenters, stolen relief aid by force for its own members, blocked access to tunnels (to civilians to save their lives during bombing) and has turned the Gaza Strip into a military fortress. Public opinion in Australia has surely shifted against blindly supporting this UN agency with apparent links to such a deadly group. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 6Feb2024
