As many Australians with family members in Gaza or Israel given new visas celebrate their safe arrival on our shores, we must all be reminded that those newcomers are here for peacefulness, not to see the battle lines redrawn on the streets of Sydney. (Fleeing Gaza on a visa, 23/11). With only occasional law breaking at protests, it might be said that we have heeded the wake-up call to not let this vile divisiveness corrupt our cities. Well done to the religious leaders on all sides. Penny Wong is surely deserving of acclaim as her sleepless nights start to produce dividends. It would certainly enhance her leadership if she managed to challenge the paucity of ideas or constructiveness emanating from the Green’s.
