News that Parramatta is a beacon for low divorce rates, 8% higher religiosity and an especially high proportion of migrants suggests that history is repeating itself, as we think back to a colonial period of settlement when this was technically our national capital. (It’s Parra-matrimony, 31/5). Perhaps our Family Law Court should be moved to where it’s needed. Much should we pine for the glorious days when Old Government House ruled the largest dominion of the empire. The moral and political collapse of modern day Canberra hierarchy is evident as it allows the confiscation of a Catholic hospital (Calvary), tolerates a military head, (who prosecutes his own soldiers while keeping medals commemorating his own responsibility for those events), and is ridiculously located in the coldest part of the country while we are attempting to reduce energy use and carbon emissions. Little doubt, Parramatta should immediately be declared our national capital. Such a move must surely bring politicians into the real world, exploding a few ivory towers in the process and up-ending their sense of geographic isolation, which long ago morphed into unbridled arrogance.
