News that US President Donald Trump has negotiated a peace treaty in Afghanistan and may soon be hosting Taliban representatives in the White House has surprised many (Taliban, US give peace a chance, 2/3). With America now more respected around the world, Trump’s election promises to end wars and his reputation for closing the deal, it was perhaps only a matter of time. The commitment to fight terrorism by the newly metamorphosed Taliban was the biggest surprise. If Trump is awarded a Nobel Peace prize, we will all remember why.
